Don't Panic!
When you first discover you have locked yourself out of your car or house, take a few moments to collect your thoughts. Hopefully you have jotted down Lock Doctor's phone number and we’ll be there as soon as possible to put things right.
For homes, we don’t recommend trying to pry open the locked door. Especially if it is wood, you could damage the door or the door frame leading to expensive repairs. Many people will hide an extra key; if you decide to do this, ask a security professional for advice on the best way to do this. The last thing you need is to deal with a break-in.
For cars, again, any pressure you put on your windows or doors could damage your car. Most newer cars cannot be unlocked with coat hangers or other wire devices.
One thing many people don’t consider when moving to a home is that the locks on the doors should be replaced, especially deadbolts.
